Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. He has just separated from a 4 year relationship and started antidepressants about 3 weeks back only. Presence of depression and then relationship problem which aggravated the depression. These all have worsened his clinical situation. Most of antidepressants (like serotonergic antidepressants, Tricyclic drugs etc) act by causing increase in serotonin and other monoamine concentration at molecular level by causing change in receptors. This usually take time and in usual individuals antidepressants approximately take about 4-6 weeks to show their effects. He has just started antidepressants so as per my opinion he should wait for some time to see full effect of drugs. If situation persist even after that time period then discuss with his psychiatrist for re-evaluation and further treatment. Try to provide him firm support and he should confide in you. Continue to give him medicines as per prescription.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
