Suggest Treatment For Degenerative Disc Disease Leading To Severe Back Pain
Hello Dr. I was diag with deg disease in L4- L5 in 2004. I was suppose to have a fusion. and opted out.... the pain is always there and I was on vicodin for 2 years afterwards. But it was too much with vicodin by day and laxatives by night. My pain is still there..... at each move I make..... Now I just bought a rower and wanted to know if it will injure my back further
Actually rower may cause undue stress on your back and increase your pain. The following are few treatment options for disc degeneration: 1) Pain medications like NSAIDs ibuprofen or Naproxen to be taken twice daily for 14 days. 2) If you have bleeding problems or kidney failure, NSAIDs are not recommended so you need to have opioids like hydrocodoneoxycodone and Tramadol. 3) To prevent gastric irritation, you may use tab. Pantop before food. 4) Go to a physical therapy trainer and learn back strengthening exercises for pain relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
