Geriatrics Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Cough with phlegm indicates lower respiratory tract infection.
2. Culture of sputum is necessary to identify appropriate sensitive antibiotic. Symptomatic treatment wont help.
3. Nebulization with bronchodilator and appropriate antibiotic is necessary. If the oxygen level is falling in blood, would require admission for oxygen support and to prevent additional infections. Meet your doctor for sputum culture and appropriate antibiotic therapy.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
