Suggest Treatment For Constipation In A Child While On Miralax

My son is 4 years old. And ever since he was a baby he s been suffering with painful bowel movements and constipation. He has been on miralax everyday or every other day for 3 years. And he still has difficulties more times than none. I am worried it could be something more serious. There s no bloody stools, thank goodness. He only drinks milk with carnation instant breakfast because he doesn t eat much solid food either. I wonder if after all of this he may be lactose intolerant.

OB and GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Consumption of more milk can cause constipation which can result in abdominal cramps or you can say pain, so I suggest you give him a healthy and balanced diet, give him more fruits and vegetables, encourage him to take good and healthy meals. Medicines wouldn’t work and you don’t even need to give him medicine if he is taking a good diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Naira Jahangir, OB and GYN Specialist
