Suggest Treatment For Constipation In A 10 Month Old Child

HELLO Doctor i have a 10 months old baby,he is been constipated,i took him to the Doctor he was given liquid parrafin and tablets that are being instered on the but.within 3 days his poop was fine then i stopped the medication.After 3 days he got constipated again.The child is taking nun formula and he has been taking it since 3 months

Hi,

*First of all, one has to think about what is being fed to the baby. If he is breastfed, exclusive chances of constipation are least (breast milk has sufficient water content in foremilk & if at all it is there, he needs to be fed more.

In case he is bottle-fed, he needs water supplement

* 10 months child needs some extra food (semisolid, smooth & easy to digest) vegetables, cooked pulse water, fruit juices. Would help with dedication.

*Start giving baby boiled water.

* If there is constipation in spite of this, give him Fig syrup or fig soaked water/kumari asava(Ayurveda medicine for infants).

*Lubricate anus with oil while body massage before bath.

*The prescribed medications are to be given as per need.
