Suggest Treatment For Constant Cracking In Ankles

hi, im 15 and 6'3 1/2. I believe im still growing but ive had constant cracking in my ankles. Almost every time i take a step my ankle cracks. Both left and right depending on which step i take. No pain is cause but it annoys me and nobody really seems to notice it except me unless its really quiet. Am i possibly still growing? I just passed the tallest one in my family which is 6'3

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, most healthy adolescents your age can still get taller. Many persons have ankles that make a cracking sound when they move. Tendons are at the ends of muscles and they attach the muscle to bone.

In some people when tendon slides across the bone, it produces a sound.

This also happens when people crack their knuckles. It is possible that as you continue to grow and the position of the tendon relative to the bone changes, the sound will disappear.

Please get an influenza vaccination if you have not already had one during the current flu season.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Arnold Zedd, Pediatrician
