My wife is 76, generally in good health, began taking 25 mg metoprolol er succinate last Friday. she has had a cold with congestion. She just woke up and said she felt uncomfortable breathing but said she is breathing ok. her blood pressure is 128/80, pulse is 59. should we be concerned?
Hello! looks like your wife has developed bronchospasm (constriction of her airways) due to metoprolol . Also her heart rate is 59 (bit below normal). Hence kindly review with your physician regarding the reason for starting on metoprolol (a beta blocker)and discuss regarding feasibility of shifting to some other safer medication .For symptomatically benefit for her breathing difficulty she might bronchodilator medications (drugs that dilate the airways n make it easier to breathe) for a short term .
