Hi,

Presence of mucus or clear discharge in stool, can also be a sign of bacterial infections, anal fissures, a bowel obstruction, or Crohn’s disease.Dehydration and constipation can be important cause of mucus in stools. Adequate hydration, increased fibre in diet can reduce the symptoms. Liquid paraffin syrup can be taken at night to soften stool. In case of infections, blood and mucus can occur in stools. Antibiotics should be administered to treat bacterial infections.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
