Suggest Treatment For Chronic Pancreatitis

My wife has cronic pancreatitus. She recently visited a local emergency room complaining of ab. pain and dehydration. She was given pain meds and nefrin. The labs indicated lipase at 6288.She was discharged later that day. Should she have been admitted?
what is the significance of lipase at 6288?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Since you wife is a known patient of chronic pancreatitis, raised lipase levels of 6288 indicate an active process of pancreatitis going on.
She should have been hospitalized and taken care of dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and so on.
Continue pain medications and Nefrin.
I would advise her the following:
Get her admitted for further care.
Proper evaluation of pancreatitis by CT scan, ERCP, MRCP and some surgery can be performed depending upon the findings to get a proper relief.
Diet needs modifications in the form of the one that does not cause pain or abdominal symptoms.
