Suggest Treatment For Chronic Headache And Migraine

Hi, I have been experiencing frequent headaches for the past 3 months...sometimes Migraines. I usually take an over the counter paracetamol, but lately I have been experiencing them every other day, sometimes daily, especially if I wake up suddenly. The pain is strongest on the temples, the top and back of the head. It seems to last a while unless I take 2 pills (the higher dosage). Is there a way to prevent this? I'm not comfortable with the frequent intake of paracetamol and the headache only gets worse if I stay without it.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

The headaches occurring more on temples and in episodes usually occurs in migraine. You are having the headache since last 3 months. Paracetamol can help to reduce the pain but the drug is just an analgesic drug and cant treat the migraine. I would advise you to consult a neuropsychiatrist for treatment of headache. Usually drugs like Amitryptiline, Sodium Valproate etc are commonly used in treatment of headache. These medicines will reduce the episodes and you will feel better. Drugs like Propranolol are used in prohphilaxis of migraine. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription of the drugs.

Apart from drugs try to avoid excess tea, coffee and you will see improvement. Have good sleep and exercise daily. Both measures will reduce the intensity of headache.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
