Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation In Child
My six year old with Down syndrome has chronic constipation and takes a daily dose of PEG to manage same. For the last two weeks she has been complaining of belly pain. She has had fever twice, and vomited on three different occasions. She has soft daily bowel movements. Bowel movements have been light brown, but tonight it was grey. What is wrong?
With regards to chronic constipation, I advise to: - give more fiber (fruits, vegetables, whole grains) - give her plenty of water and fluids - give fiber supplements and stool softeners - senna supplement can be given for a short-term therapy
All the best!

Hi, Having grey stool is due to frequent bowel movements. Having fever and vomiting with increased bowel movements are due to possible viral gastroenteritis. With regards to chronic constipation, I advise to: - give more fiber (fruits, vegetables, whole grains) - give her plenty of water and fluids - give fiber supplements and stool softeners - senna supplement can be given for a short-term therapy All the best!
