Suggest Treatment For Chronic Anxiety Disorder And Depression

I m a 42 year old woman, teacher and mother of three kids. I ve been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and depression for 7 years. However, I seem to be having more bad days than good as time goes on. My symptoms, (related and unrelated) range from severe fatigue, drowsiness, weakness, pain and achy muscles/joints, headaches, problems gaining weight, digestive symptoms, etc... It has never interferred with my work or life, but I fear it s getting closer and closer to that point. Could there be something else going on besides my anxiety and depression? Melanie

Hi Melanie,

I can understand your concern. As all these symptoms are related to anxiety and depression, they are also related to menopause. It might be possible that you are feeling these symptoms getting worse as you might be entering menopausal phase.

To start with, you can consult a mental health professional and discuss your symptoms. They are experts in ascertaining the root cause of the problem by having counselling sessions with you. If he/she also feels that menopause might be related with your heightened symptoms, you can consult a gynecologist for hormone replacement therapy. Otherwise, just some anxiolytics and antidepressants for some time can help you.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM for your concern. I wish you feel better soon!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
