Suggest Treatment For Chronic Abdominal Pain And Weight Loss

Ok..my sister has had chronic abdominal pain for over 2 years...her ct scan indicated the gallbladder had some polyps and sludge, but doctor says its nothing to be concerned about. she has lost so much weight in the last 2 years. shes had upper and lower gi and everything was clear.. but, she has horrible pain! doctor said she had no reason to be having pain. made us feel like he thought she just wanted pain meds. she occasionally will take 1 motrin for a headache and thats it. I feel we have been given the go around for 2 years and i am afraid she will die before they find out what is wrong with her! Please help!

Hi,

Your symptoms are nonspecific but suggestive of benign digestion disorder called IBS or irritable bowel syndrome. This is manifested with bloating or diarrhoeas with pain and abdominal discomfort.

As remedies you should: Look at your diet. If it contains a large number of carbohydrates that are difficult to digest, try to replace them.

Carbohydrates that are easier to digests, such as potatoes, rice, and bananas, are good substitutes.

Also, try to eat around five to six small meals a day instead of three larger ones to help your digestive process.

Chew properly to avoid doing anything that may increase the amount of air that you swallow.

This includes making sure that you are chewing your food properly, and avoiding chewing gum or smoking. Also, drink some peppermint tea, chamomile tea and ginger.

In severe cases, colonoscopy should be done and some medications recommended.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
