Hi, I am currently taking amlodipine besylate 10m for by blood pressure. I have been having a severe cough and chocking. Most time I feel as If something is stuck in my throat. Before taking this medication my doctor had me taking a sister medication to this on which did the same thing. What do you suggest I do?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are some high blood pressure medications that can cause coughing.

These are the ACE inhibitor such as lisinopril, enalapril, ramipril, quinapril etc

Amlodipine is not normally associated with coughing so it is possible that there may be another cause such as post nasal drip, GERD, asthma.

Post nasal drip is the most common cause for persistent cough with a few persons not aware of the drip.

It is treated with a topical steroid nasal spray and antihistamines.

I hope this helps
