Suggest Treatment For Cervical Pain Radiating Between Shoulder Blades

Been told I have a crumbling disc between my shoulder blades which causes extreme pain which radiates to my shoulder blade, neck and shoulder. I am on painkillers and exercise as much as I can but I do not fully understand the long term ramifications. Can you help?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of pain from neck to shoulder and in between shoulder blades, have been told this to be due to crumbling disc, on painkillers and wants to know the ramifications.
As per the history you have provided this may be due to cervical spondilitis but there are are reason to be looked and investigated for a proper diagnosis so that the management can be specific.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult a Neurosurgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and MRI of the cervical spine.
Any other tests as would advised.
Prescription based medicines for muscle relaxation, pain.
Oral steroids may help.
To rule out other medical problems like diabetes and hypertension.
Once the diagnosis is cleared then take help of a Physiotherapist if the Neurosurgeon advises so.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
