Suggest Treatment For Cavity And Sensitivity In Teeth

Hi I know for a fact that i have a cavity. I just am not 100% positive i know how bad or not so bad it is. So im terrified of the dentist. But i've done my research. Im past the enamel of my canine tooth. I believe im at the dentin of my tooth. Im not sensitive to hot or cold or anything. Juts the occasional small toothache. Mostly when im just under stress though. What color is the dentin usually?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain if you have a cavity in tooth it is most commonly due to bacterial infection in the tooth leading to dissolution of the top enamel layer from acid formed by the bacteria and proceeding down to dentin which is softer than enamel and the decay causes the faster spread of infection in dentin..

The colour of dentin is light yellowish and when there is infection it appears brownish black..

When the infection is superficial there is no sensitvity and pain and as the infection progresses further towards nerves there is sensitivity to cold and hot and gradually pain begins with the exposure of nerves and inflammation leading to Pulpitis..

As there is occassional pain you should get an x ray done by a dentist and get an evaluation done and case if you have a cavity with no nerve exposure it would be better to consult a dentist and get the filling of the tooth done with a tooth coloured filling material so as to prevent further decay..

In case if the infection has approximted the nerves Root Canal treatment is indicated..

Hope this information helps..

Hello,
Thanks for the query,

Stress doesn't cause pain in single tooth . Sometimes stress can lead to bruxism (clenching of teeth ) which results in jaw pain or generalized tooth pain not localize .

Color of dentine is off white or light yellow.

The pain you talking about is due to sensitivity although it may be possible that cavity has not reached pulp and it is still in dentine , but still it can show sensitivity .

I would suggest you to consult dentist or endodontist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order X-ray to check the depth of the cavity .

In case of small cavities liner should be given after removing infected part and before filling , because liner will prevent sensitivity and then filling material ( composite material )should be placed in cavity .

Very small cavities can be treated just by removing infected part and left as such , the procedure is known as saucerization .

Wishing you a good health.
Thank you
