Suggest Treatment For Cavernous Malformation

My brother 63 years of age has a cavernous malformation. It bled out into brain stem. He is veteran. He has been at UAMS the past three weeks. They did surgery to remove it two weeks ago today. They now have said he no longer needs acute care so want to move him. His wife and I don t know the best place for him. His eyes have yet to open but that happened before surgery something to do with palsy 3. He has not woke up since the surgery. He responds to pain stimulus and a few times to verbal command. But mostly just lays there. He has feeding tube in his stomach now. What is the best type facility to put him in. Please any suggestions will be appreciated

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your 63 year old brother who has undergone cavernous malformation surgery for brain, has not fully awake, Doctors want him to be shifted, undergoing naso-gastric tube feeding and so on.
Surely yes, this is a big concern as the care of the person who is not moving as 24/7 hence he can be shifted to such care centers.
You have to ask about availability of such centers and get a proper admission.
Also consider about care at home with the helps of Specialist Nurse or so.
Such patients need proper diet and fluid balance the need is as per the stationary patient.
Physiotherapy in bed to maintain the muscle tone and joint mobility is also very important.
Care of blac, mouth and eyes.
To avoid bed-sores at any cost.
And obviously as would be advised by the treating Doctors.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
