Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I fell last Thursday and bruised my shin severely. I went to minor emergency clinic for treatment. Was advised to ice and elevate. Today its still swollen huge and black and blue very tinder to the touch. I called the clinic back they advise me to go to emergency room but that cost me a $100.00. I was reading online about contusions it stated that it may need to be drained if I send you a pic could you give me advise?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . Large lump might be due to haematoma formation(collection of blood). You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.
It is better if you can send the pic.. You can consult me again directly through my profile http://www.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-saurabh-gupta/64132 I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
