Suggest Treatment For Broken Skin Above The Knuckles

My husband who is 69 was hit by a baseball at the Naval Academy Saturday on the thumb. The ball was pitched at 90 miles per hour, so he did take quite a hit. The skin was broken just above the knuckle. Today the skin under the knuckle is black with a very small amount of deep purple. I am worried about gangrene. He does not feel hot or warm around the area, however there is swelling. I am trying to convince him to go to the ER.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably it is due to skin contusion.

As of now you can use analgesics/anti-inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
