Suggest Treatment For Blood In Stool

I have had episodes of frank bloody stool for over 40 years. I have no pain. Colonoscopy reveals a small inflamed area in the sigmoid colon, but no polyps. After a hiatus of several years I am having these symptoms again. I believe I developed a fissure 2 years ago, but the symptoms ceased after a few months. I am a 73 year old female.

Hello. Thanks for putting your query in hcm. Painless bleed per rectum can be due to many causes like hemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease, polyp etc. Since your colonoscopy only showed some inflammation in sigmoid colon. And rest was normal. I will suggest you to again get but only sigmoidoscopy to check for hemorrhoids and to see if the inflammation is persisting in sigmoid and if it is there then ask your doctor to take biopsy of that area as it can be the cause of bleeding. I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Wish you a good health
