Suggest Treatment For Blood Blister On Back Of The Foot

Hi, i bruised my heel walking heavily in flip flops and soon got a big blood blister covering the entire back of my foot, (where you would put a sandal strap), I have had this for about 3 weeks now and have been covering the blister, but its getting bigger and causing extreme pain.

Hello,

You have a blood blister since 3 weeks, getting bigger and painful, you are suggested to maintain your hygiene and protect the area affected from getting infected. Walk slowly to avoid additional hurt or abrasion due to friction. Do not put any type of pressure on the blister.

After cleaning the area gently you can apply ointment bacitracin or Neosporin. You can take pain relievers orally like acetaminophen or Combiflam, one SOS after food. It should get reduced. If not you can take a course of Augmentin orally and get it examined in the ER. You may need cleaning and antiseptic dressing or intravenous antibiotics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
