Hello.

Thanks for writing to HCM.

I can understand your concern.

There are 2 possibilities I can offer:

1. Assuming the symptoms have started as soon as she started Nido and have been there for as long as she has been on Nido (atleast 2 weeks), it suggests that she is allergic to some of the components in Nido. to confirm this you may stop Nido and observe. If her symptoms resolve, you may have to start another hypoallergenic formula. You may also have to get an allergy testing done after consulting her paediatrician.

2. If her symptoms have appeared long after starting Nido and have been for a short time now (less than a week), it is more suggestive of a viral infection. Saline nasal drops for relieving the nasal blockage and keeping her head and upper body elevated at night will make her more comfortable till the infection subsides which it usually does on it own. However, if her symptoms persist for longer than 1 week and she develops fever, fast breathing, feeds poorly and appears sick, she may be having a severe infection which will need an urgent visit to the paediatrician and starting antibiotics as soon as possible.

Hope this helps. Wishing her good health.

Regards,
Dr Geeta
