Suggest Treatment For Blistered Athlete S Foot

It looks like my adult son has the vesicular type of athletes foot as it appeared exactly as pictured. However it spread to the top of his foot and is now a 2-3 wound. He was treated with an oral antibiotic and topical medication and it improved but has returned with a vengeance and is becoming quite raised and looks like a blood blister underneath. He wore a sandal on the affected foot while being treated but is a mechanic and is required to wear steel toed boots in the shop where he works. Does he need another oral antibiotic? Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would recommend you to first start local treatment with a combination of an antifungal and a strong steroid cream. For instance he can apply thin layer of clobetasole cream twice a day on the area and over it you can apply miconazole cream twice a day.

You may try this for 7-10 days and you should start to see improvement within the first 3-4 days. Meanwhile it is very important that he wears cotton socks and changes them regularly.
If this is not helping in 5-6 days then he will need to see the doctor and get oral treatments.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
