Suggest Treatment For Bleeding After Tonsillectomy
Hi I am 38 year old female into day 8 post op tonsillectomy. After eating some cream of wheat about an hour later I tasted something gross and felt as though I swallowed some of the scab. I took a look and it did look like it had thinned out on one side. But then I tasted blood. I gargled lightly with cold water and it seemed to stop and go away. When I looked a few hours later there was a dark scab the size of a pea. Is this normal to happen or should I call my ENT. I see him in 4 days for post op.
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query. The dark scab what you are describing is nothing but the blood clot. This can occur secondary to the dislodgement of the clot at the site of surgery. Nothing to be panic, it is common to have this kind of situation, this can occur secondary to coughing, vigorous gargling and sneezing. All these creates negative pressure and result in bleeding. If the bleeding does not stop after 2-3days, then you can consult a ENT surgeon and get it evaluated. I hope my answer will help you, take care.
