Suggest Treatment For Bipolar Disorder

My granddaughter who is 17 and lives with us, came home last night and told me she thought she is suffering from being bi-polar. I ve read the symptoms and she definitely has them. Her dad (our eldest son who is now deceased) was bi-polar. Should I get her to the psychiatrist?

Hi thanks for asking question.

In bipolar mood disorder patient is having two stage behaviour.

At one time patient is in manic euphoric stage and at another time having depression.

So yes you can consult her to psychiatric
Clinic.

She can be given lithium like mood stabilizer drug if needed.

Behaviour therapy will be provided by doctor that is helpful.

The improvement will not be in one night.
Family support needed.
Patient should be educated by doctor about her condition.

Psychotherapy also useful.

And ya life style measures like avoidence of alcohol and drugs , regular sleep , avoidence of stress will benefit most.

So yes consult psychiatrist without feeling shy.

Take care.
