Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my grandaughter aged 15 next month, has been told she has low blood. The receptionist called to tell my daughter the results of the blood work saying she has blood quite a bit lower than average. The dr. wants her on iron and east lots of meat. Come back in 2 months and we will check it again. So my daughter talked to a pharmacist who gave her ferrous sulfate 300 mg. Take one pill every night with juice. After looking it up on line I am concerned about dosage . The doctor did not tell her what # her blood is at. I am taking my grandaughter away tomorrow for a week so I will be rsponsible for giving her medication. She takes no other meds.
Iron supplements in the form of ferrous sulfate is prescribed to be taken for mild to moderate anemia. I would suggest your grand daughter to take one tablet every day as advised by your pharmacist. In case she had severe anemia, your doctor would have prescribed iron injection or blood transfusion as treatment. Since he has advised iron rich food, mild anemia is the probable diagnosis. Hence ferrous sulfate can be taken.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
