Suggest Treatment For Anemia In A Diabetic Person

I have had diabetes for 28years. I am a 54 year old female. I have some kidney disease in the initial stages. I am anemic and have been for many many years. My grandmother, sister and several other family members are as well. There isheart disease in the family. My doctor wants me to start Procrit injections. Are these necessary? Do benefits outweigh the risks?

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
The management of anemia depends on the cause and the severity of anemia. If severe, blood transfusion may be considered if you do not tolerate the anemia. If moderate or mild, anti-anemics may be considered like provrit injection. It is generally used to treat anemia in people with long-term serious kidney disease , people receiving zidovudine to treat HIV, and people receiving chemotherapy for some types of cancer. Its benefits however will always outweigh its risk when indicated.Just trust your Doctor.
Hope this will help
Wish you good health
