Hi. i am a relatively healthy 40+ year old female who has recently been suffering over the last 10 months from acute insomnia. And therefore weight lossetc. this is due to certain stresses arising out of major legal problems (family issues too.) I have been prescribed Restyl tablets (0.5mg) but they do not seem to have much effect. Is there a stronger medication that i could ask my doctor to prescribe that is available in Goa, India?
A lot of individuals develop sleep problems due to chronic stress. Insomnia due to such stress result in aggravation of depressive symptoms. This could result in weight loss or some time gain also. Restyl can result in reduction of anxiety but the drug should be taken for short periods of time only and the drug has significant abuse potential. Other drugs like Zolpidem or Zopiclone can be used. These drugs are relatively safer in terms of abuse potential and you can ask your doctor for that. If symptoms persist even after that then medicines like Mirtazapine or Trazodon can be used. These medicines will reduce the symptoms of chronic stress and your sleep will improve.
Thanks, hope this helps you. Take care
