Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain, Nausea And Diarrhea Caused By Intake Of Normabrain

My mother had seen a doctor concerning neurology 7 days ago. The neurologist gave her one medicine named as Normabrain(Piracetam Group). Continuing for two days medication, my mother had severe reaction with hives on skin which is typically during the night only and associated with pain in the abdomen and nausea and vomitting and many times loose motion. Her age is 62 years and she has swelling in both lips and face. Now she is admitted in Nurshing Home. What should be the course of treatment? Please help me..

Normabrain contains piracetam that belongs to the group of medications known as GABA analogues is used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, stroke, memory disorders etc. The medicine has some side effects. It may cause symptoms of allergic reactions such as rashes, hives, itching, swelling of lips, tongue, eyes, face, throat, hands or feet, respiratory difficulties, wheezing, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, hypotension etc.

If these symptoms of allergic reactions become serious and life threatening condition, then your mom should inform her doctor or get herself admitted into hospital according to the severity. Stop taking the medication that may cause allergic reactions immediately, taking of antihistamines and sometimes cortico-steroids are the first line treatment here along with symptomatic management.
