My 9 year old daughter was feeling ill on sunday. She c/o HA, abdominal pain, Fever 101.8. She was taken to an Urgent Care and was given Miralax and a antibiotic. Today the nurse called and stated there was blood in her urine and wanted her to return to do another UA. She went today and the nurse called and stated she had 3-5 RBC in your urine and some bacteria. Can someone explain this to me please and thank you.

Hello dear!
I have gone through your query carefully and understood your concerns!
I'm trying to explain what is going on with your daughter.
Presence of blood in urine and other symptoms such as abdominal pain, and fevers, is indicative for Urinary tract infection. You have confirmed that from the urine analysis which resulted with blood cells and bacteria in it. Presence of high temperature means that the infection is moderate to severe.
So basing on this findings I would suggest you to continue the cure with antibiotics for at least 10 days (up to 14 days). Nitrofurantoin, or cefaclor, would be the choice for the age of your daughter.
Meanwhile your daughter should keep a diet with plenty of water and liquids. Cranberry juice would help in urinary tract disinfection.

I hope you found this answer helpful. Please kindly write a short review about this experience.

I wish a good health to your daughter!
Sincerely,
DR ERIOL.
