Suggest Treatment For A Wound After A Shoe Bite

Hello Sir, I had one would due to shoe biting and it had been for a long time. I used various oilments for this and then consulted a dermatologist who also prescribed two creams and asked me to apply on that injury. However there was no result and then the doctor gave me injection of Kenacort and Now there is white patch there after a period of two months. Now I am worried about this. This white patch was initially very faint and getting more visible. There after I consulted an M.D. dermatologist who assured me that it is not vitiligo and advised me keep leg in sun exposure. Please guide me in this regard. My main concern is whether it will be vitiligo and white will spread all over body . White patch will remove or not. Plz guide me I am highly worried.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The issue started with a shoe bite that led to swelling of the area and might have caught infection. Later with medicine and ointments it healed. It is very common to get a discolored patch when skin injuries heal usually due loss of skin pigment. As you have already consulted a dermatologist and he has said that it’s not vitiligo, you shouldn’t be worried.

Get enough sun exposure and you will be fine. Usually vitiligo starts on both sides of the body and rarely on one side. The one sided spreads rarely as compare to the two sided one. If you are in doubt yet, a skin biopsy can be done to rule out vitiligo.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
