Suggest Treatment For A Sebaceous Cyst On The Scalp
Hi, I have just had a cyst removed from my scalp which was only slightly smaller than a golf ball. The doctor seemed completely confident that it was a sebaceous cyst even after the surgery and ventured to cut it open when he showed it to me post removal. However, instead of the thick paste like fluid he expected, it was filled with a watery fluid. The doc seemed slightly puzzled and has now sent it for hispopathology even though he claims there is nothing to worry. Do I need to be worried? Can Sebaceous cysts be filled with watery fluid instead of the thick paste like fluid? Pls advise as I am very concerned! Thanks!
Noted your history of liquid filled cyst, removed and was thought to be due to sebaceous cyst but without any characteristic material of a sebaceous cyst. Sebaceous cyst has always a characteristic white material as this is remains of the unabsorbable material, water and soluble solutes get absorbed. Since this cyst had watery content it is most probably other type of cyst which histopathological examination will prove on. So, wait and watch the report to get a confirmed diagnosis and then get treated accordingly if need be; otherwise complete surgical excision is in itself a complete treatment which has already been done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
