Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
About 2 weeks ago I developed a rash above the nape of the neck, on the left side of my head. It is extremely tender around the back of my ear down to the jaw and I have shooting pains as severe as a bad toothache. The rash is no longer red and my doctor s assistant said she does not believe it is shingles. Also, I had a shingles shot a year or so ago. Outside of shingles I can not think of what it might be. At first i thought I might have been bitten by a spider, but after 2 weeks I don t think so. I take ibuprofin and that helps with the pain and allows me to sleep. Any ideas or suggestions of what it might be and what sort of test I might do?
As per your query you have symptoms of rashes on the neck which is very common due to the fact as dirt and moisture get trapped by your clothing and leading to blockage of sebaceous glands.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you keep this area clean and dry. Apply warm compresses with a soaked towel and apply vitamin C serum at night. You should avoid touching or pricking rashes. Apply ice pack on rashes 2-3 times a day.
If the condition doesn't get better then consult a dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor will examine physically along with blood test and sample for lab test.
The doctor may prescribe antibiotics like clindamycin along with anti-inflammatory medications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
