Suggest Treatment For A Pea-sized Spermatocele That Causes Intermittent Pain

I have a small, less than pea sized spermatocele on my right testicle. It causes intermittent pain, such as a dull or medium strength ache, that comes and goes. I ve found a few articles advocating use of topical Iodine to help shrink the spermatocele cyst, and wanted to ask if there could be any adverse reactions to using iodine topically on my testis?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
A spermatocele is a fluid-filled non-cancerous abnormal sac (cyst) that develops in the epididymis. It is usually painless and might occur due to a blockage in one of the tubes that transports sperm.
Since it is causing symptoms in your case, it would be ideal to intervene, as left alone could land up in certain complications.
You may take over-the-counter pain medications, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen to overcome acute pain.
Since the lesion is deep inside, topical application of medications does not help in anyway to overcome your problem.
A procedure called a 'spermatocelectomy' is performed by a Surgeon, generally on an outpatient basis, using a local or general anesthesia.
Kindly consult Surgeon for clinical evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
