Suggest Treatment For A Painful Bump On The Finger

Hi, my thumb fingernail developed a crack/small tear in it months ago. Now it appears to be forming a ridge or rising/bumpey lifting in the center of the nailbed. It is very tender to the touch and starting to look like a deformity it erupting... If also had a lot of pain in the base of the thumb for almost a year now, as well. Osteoporosis runs in my family. Is this serious? What s up? Thanks for any advice!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

This is not in keeping with osteoporosis. Osteoporosis would not show itself in the nail as mentioned.

It sounds as though there may be a fungal infection present.

Fungal infections would cause abnormalities of the nail and may also be associated with pain.

Fungal nail infections require oral antifungal treatment, they do not respond to topical medication only
Your doctor would need to prescribe medication for you.

I hope this helps
