Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. My husband has a lump on his stomach, not like a typical hernia type lump, it s more of a lump that when he lays on the bed, you can see it kind of protrude out a little and its appears longer than it is tall or wide. It starts about where the diaphragm is. It does not hurt but its definitely noticeable. what could this be?
There can be various reasons for lump on the stomach as: - Soft tissue lesion as lipoma or others - Gap in the abdomen wall layers as sheath or others causing hernia (epigastric region)
He needs a prescription of ultrasound of the soft tissue part with high resolution probe for getting finer details of anatomic disturbances and guidance of management accordingly. At home you can assess the difference by noticing any changes in visible bulge with coughing or straining (as hernia gets more prominent in that while that of lipoma remains same)
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
