Suggest Treatment For A Head Injury

My son was napping on the bed earlier and when I went to the kitchen he must have woken up an rolled off the bed. We have carpet but I thi he hit the wooden bar of the crib. I heard him cry and ran in. It took about a minute to console him. He hit the back left of his head. He s 14 months. Normal pupils, no blood, playing normally, easy to wake. I live with my mom who s a mother of four and she says he s fine... I feel a slight indentation. Not visable. Rather hard to feel. This happened at three today. Should I be worried? should I take him in? How long should I be paying close attention?

Hello dear,

The indent formation is due to accumulation of fluid & blood and it is called Hematoma.
The blood cells accumulated are eventually broken down and absorbed in the body.
But this is a slow process & takes times to disappear completely.
Till that time, symptomatic relief is obtained by analgesics preparations (like paracetamol), ice compression & adequate rest.

If it still persists or there are any other associated symptoms like excessive crying, fever, vomiting, loss of consciousness, convulsions, etc...then it will be better to consult his Pediatrician.
Under such circumstances, a proper clinical+ radiological evaluation will be needed to rule out any pathological cause for symptoms.

Till then, maintain adequate hydration & nutrition status.
There is no need to worry, he will be fine.

Wishing your son a good health.
Take care.
