Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I ve had a fordyce spot and looked online and one suggestion was to apply benzoyl peroxide cream which i did. It was getting bigger before this and had a tiny black spot on it. After applying the cream the black spot disappeared and the whole thing was natural skin colour. After two days it started swelling up and the last three days it has swollen up in to a hard, red lump, 5mm thick with white spots on the top where puss sometimes leaks out. It now feels more like a sebaceous cyst but is still red. Do i let it settle for a while or do i immediately get it checked
Fordyce spots are a variant of sebaceous glands (the glands that normally produce sebum and are usually found within hair follicles).Sometimes Fordyce spots cause anxiety but they are completely harmless.
Your symptoms suggest that the spots have infected and oozing pus.Kindly do not drain or self treat since it would increase the infection.Visit your dermatologist for treatment.Antibiotics should be taken to reduce infection.
Hope that was helpful.Let me know if i can assist you further.
