Suggest Treatment For A First-degree Burn On The Toe

A candle fell on my big toe about two years ago, I am a diabetic. I didn t think anything of it so didn t seek help right away, however now it hurts to put certain shoes on and I have a dull pain in my big toe. I think the bone it hit is called Cuneiform. There is a difference in size of both big toes.

Hi
As per your case history of trauma on toe, my treatment advice is -
1. As you are diabetic, you need to be extra careful.
2. Clean the wound with povidone iodine solution and apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for pain and swelling.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
MBBS, DDVL.
