Dietitian & Nutritionist 's  Response
I sympathize. We cannot get the blender from Dr. Phil's show, I am sorry. There is a program used for controlling obesity in Prader-Willi syndrome. Using a "stop-light" approach, you teach your daughter proper eating through a Go-Caution-No foods in a color coded system. I suggest working with a Dietitian to help you get started as she will need an exercise program (I know you have tried), but seeing a Dietitian may give you ideas that will work for both of you.

For older teens, 800-1200 calories are used.

Growth Hormone has been used by some physicians to aid in stimulating growth and to improve signs of osteoporosis.

Sometimes if the child cannot control herself, locked cupboards and refrigerators are necessary. No sugars and restrict fatty foods as much as possible except for extra virgin olive oil, omega-3 fatty acids.

One more thing, you know your daughter and I don't. I would like to help you, but in all honesty I must refer you to a dietitian for behavioral therapy, nutrition education at her level of understanding, a workable exercise plan and meal plan guidance. Please rid yourself of your own guilt if experiencing than - its ok. Prader is challenging. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
