Suggest Substitue Medication For Tacrolimus

I had a kidney transplant on 05/20/1987 and been subject to some form of immunosuppressant drug all that time. Presently I am on Tacrolimus.I take 2 mg in the A.M. and 1mg in the evening 12 hours apart. I am suffering side effects from this drug, can I take something else that would have less side effects? Pleases let me know.

Urologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, first of all,be very happy that, your kidney graft is safe, from 20.5.87. The immunosuppresants are being given to prevent a rejection.Any graft may get rejection, anytime. So never skip your medication. The dose is gradually tapered, with monitoring of creatinine and electrolytes, by nephrologist. The change from Tacrolimus to another drug, is best done by supervising nephrologist. If you've any doubt, you may send it as a direct question to me.
