Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had a persistent cough since the end of December. I went to the doctor. I was given a z-pack and tessalon pearls (20 days). I am still coughing. It s not as bad, but it never went away. I m 56 years old, and of good health otherwise. I work in a school and the school nurse checked my lungs. She says they sound good.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent cough which is due to chronic lung infection or bronchitis. Need not to worry much. I would suggest you to visit pulmonologist once and get it examined. You should go for pulmonary function tests and x-ray chest as well to check exact level of infection. Doctor may also take sample from lungs for lab test .Start treatment only after proper prescription. Drink plenty of warm water. Take hot milk rich in turmeric as it will booster immunity , also add one spoon of honey in it . You need inhaled bronchodilators and antihistamine drug. You should use mist humidifiers in room. You should take cough expectorants as well. Sometimes cough can also occur due acid reflux in that case consult gastroenterologist and till then take antacid after every meal and eat light .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
