Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Olimelt or Olanzapine is a second generation antipsychotic drug. The drug is commonly used medicine in psychosis and mood stabilisation. The drug is relatively safe drug but it is known to cause increase in appetite and weight. He is on low doses and at 5 mg dose per day weight gain would not be much trouble. Dietary adjustments and exercises can help to control the weight so no need to worry. Ask him to exercise daily and his weight would come in normal range. If that is not possible then other antipsychotic drugs that are relatively safer like Aripiprazole can be used. The drug doesn't cause weight gain and is safe relatively.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
