Suggest Remedy For Swelling, Pressure, Stiffness And Pain In Hip Post A Fall

hello there doctor, in October last year I came off my bike on a wet road turning at a set of traffic lights and my left hip took the full blow of the impact from falling off my bike, at first there was a lot of grazing and swelling so I thought nothing of it, but recently in the past few months its been hurting again but I can do all types of activities, I can still walk fine, but when I cycle say, 3 days in a row, it becomes a little bit sore and I haven t had the time to visit a doctor as all the appointments seem to be booked up. now, when I stand up straight and push my hips out to the left side, it hurts, like it feels very tight over the side of my hip. also I sleep on my left side most of the time and it feels like there is a slight pressure all over my left hip joint. I m 18 years old and moderately active and I m from the UK, if you could help me with this I would be extremely pleased! many thanks, Chris.

Hello,

You are suffering from swelling, pressure and pain in the hips post a fall. Such symptoms can be due to hip strain, labral tear, snapping hip syndrome, bursitis, etc. You are suggested to get it clinically examined by an orthopedist, get X-ray, CT / MRI done. You will be treated accordingly.

You can take NSAIDs, Naproxen, one stat after food for relieve from pain and inflammation. A course of physical therapy can help to relieve a pressed nerve or release pressure from a painful hip joint. A hot or cold compress can bring temporary relief. Get connected to a Physical therapist, under observation exercises done to strengthen your lower back can help to relieve one-sided pain above the hip.

Cold helps to reduce inflammation in sore hip joints and can also alleviate pain from a pinched nerve. Heat therapy helps to increase circulation to the painful area above your left hip joint. Heat will also help to relax muscles. If stiffness or loss of range of motion in your hip is causing you discomfort get clinically evaluated and treated at the earliest.
