for about 3 days my husband has been experiencing lower left pain between his stomach and his thigh area pain is increeasing and he is most comfortable in a fetal position he can only have painless urination by sitting.standing upright is unbearable.considered a hernia but he has not done anything strenuous being that he is a hospice( last stage copd) patient he has not done any extensive physical activity.thanks in advance for any advice or diagnosis
Hi. Thanks for your query. Note the history about your husband having hospice due to last stage COPD, severe pain in the area between stomach and thigh area where he is comfortable only in the fetal position. He can have painless urination in sitting position; standing upright is unbearable. Considered hernia but he has done nothing strenuous. This can be confirmed by examination of the area for any bulges, that increase on coughing and reduces on pressing on, if positive then this is hernia, but hernia when in such a pain is not reducible and needs urgent surgery. By the way the pain is explained, there is possibility of a slipped disc in the thoracic region causing this pain or neurological origin. I would advise you to have him examined clinically by a Doctor as this may be a serous problem and needs special investigations and care as he is a hospice care patient. Take care.
