Suggest Remedy For Severe Chest Congestion And Cough Due To Allergic Cold

I started with typical allergies last Monday, that slowly worsened throughout the week. By Friday, the cough had moved down into my chest. Had chills late Sat night, followed by fever that went as high as 103.4. Sunday, fever was low grade, only 99.6(I do run a low normal temp) Felt better, still coughing up mucous that was greenish/brownish in color. No temp Monday or today, but tonight I have bright red rash on cheeks, some on neck and upper chest.

Hello,

You are suffering from allergic cold with severe chest congestion, cough and fever. You are also coughing greenish brown mucous with cough, it may be indicative of infection. You are suggested to get blood tests, sputum test, swab test done. You can get X-ray chest done to rule out other ailments. Get clinically examined by a GP. In the meantime, for relief take non sedating antihistamines, one stat and when required.

You may need a course of oral antibiotics like Augmentin. For fever you can take acetaminophen, one stat when needed after food, it will help to control fever, headache and body ache. Stay well hydrated, take water, fluids, soup. Take semi solid food like oats or porridge so that you do not hurt your throat as it can trigger inflammation and hence cough and discomfort. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
