Suggest Remedy For Red Rashes On Face Of An Infant After Eating Corn

Hi, my daughter is now 4 months old. Over the past few months I ve had to experiment with different formulas. Gerber brand formulas cause her face to break out, turn red and crusty. Also caused her stools to smell like wild onions. She was also fussy and spitting up a lot. The first ingredient in the Gerber is corn. Now that she is on Similac soy her face is fine (Gerber soy also caused breakout). I have recently started giving her rice cereal and her face is breaking out again. What could be causing this? Could it be a gluten allergy? Note- my 14 month old son also had to drink soy formula due to 10-12 bm s a day but he could drink the Gerber brand although he was continually constipated from it... Pediatricians haven t been any help, they just keep telling me to try different things. Please advise, thank you!

Hello,

The red rashes after eating corn indicates possible issue of biochemical issue. The corn digestion requires Maltase enzyme, which converts maltose content of the corn into glucose. In absence of Maltase or malfunctioning or hypo functioning of the enzyme, one will face issue of hypersensitivity to the corn intake. Though best therapy is avoidance of certain food stuffs, a consultation with expert allergy specialist and get a list of food items to be avoided for time being approach.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
