I went on holiday last week, and i shaved my legs on the morning and applied suncream prior 2 sun exposure. I went in the sea 4 around half an hour and got out as legs were stinging,i then applied suncream an was in the sun 4 a couple of hours. My legs burned very badly in this short space of time. On the flight home i couldnt wear flights socks as legs were so sore so my legs ended up swelling. Elevated them when i got home and continued applying aftersun... Its now a week later and my legs have a really weird tinge of browny purple 2 them on burnt areas and its in a very weird shape. Its showing no sign of going down and im worried my legs have scarred for life
I am quite empathetic to your sun burn. It evident from your query that you have acute sun burn of quite higher side.
I also suggest you to do cold compression over all the affected area. Simultaneously it is quite important to do sun protection strictly.
In my patients with your condition I advise them to use an antihistaminic tablet such as cetrizine for two times a day.
In my patients I prefer to give an antihistamine such as levocetrizine for 2-3 times as updosing in a day for immediate relief. It is quite very helpful if a mild steroid lotion is applied which helps in decreasing the burning sensation.
I also recommend you drink plenty of liquids so that proper hydration can be maintained. If you are not getting better or the problems are increasing in 24 hours then must take a proper dermatological suggestion.
You can get further direction from your treating dermatologist.
All the best.
