Suggest Remedy For Persistent Pain And Swelling In Epididymis
I have pain and swelling in epididymis for a month even after taking Augumentin 625 for two weeks the infection has persisted now doctor has prescribed niftran 100 two times daily. Also there was no bacteria found in my urine culture, has ultrasound of testis, abdomen nothing was abnormal can niftran make go away the infection.
Hi, Bacterial infection is the most common cause of acute epididymitis. Urine culture may be sterile (no bacteria found) due to various factors- commonest being use of antibiotic prior to culture. Less common microbes include Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB),which causes chronic epididymitis (epididymitis for more than six weeks-in your case now about a month or 04 weeks). You can undergo TB gold test (IGRA/interferon gamma release assay). Non-infectious causes are also possible. Reflux of sterile urine (urine without bacteria) through the ejaculatory ducts may cause inflammation of epididymis with obstruction. Niftran (nitrofurantoin) is usually effective against E. coli, the commonest organism that cause urinary tract infection.
