Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter fell on her shoulder yesterday during a soccer game when she was tripped by another player. She continued to play until the half was over then came out of the game to be safe and ice it. she said she heard a pop or snap, but was able to lift her arm above her shoulder in all directions. it hurt, but wasn t excruciating to where she was unable to lift it. there was a little bit of swelling on top of the shoulder where she hit it, but not too bad. I am trying to get into the MD but can t see my orthopedic until tuesday. Can i rule out a fracture? and can I assume she might have jammed it or separated it? She wore a sling today and has been icing it and took Aleve.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. It could be soft tissue injury or fracture. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. Your daughter may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance. In the interim, apply ice packs to the affected area,anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid lifting and rest well.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
